Carmen Kesteven
HR Manager

fred peratt owner of environmental enhancements “I have always loved nature. I love trees, I love flowers,” says Carmen Kesteven. “In the city where I grew up in Bolivia, there were tall buildings and so few green trees.” Upon her arrival in the U.S., Carmen was intrigued by her uncle’s landscaping business, but it was a while before she began working in the industry herself.

“Early on, I had the opportunity to work for an immigration attorney,” Carmen says. “I learned to work with people who had different backgrounds.  I shared their dreams because those were my dreams at one point in my life.”

Later, when a local landscaping company placed an ad, she made the switch and quickly fell in love with the green industry.

Now an HR manager at EE, Carmen appreciates the relationships she has with longtime employees and clients. “This is my dream,” she says. ”Helping EE grow and becoming known in the industry. I am very happy and proud to be part of EE!”

David Arze
Senior Account Manager

fred peratt owner of environmental enhancements When David Arze came to the U.S. from Bolivia to study economics, he needed a job to pay for college. A homeowner in Mclean, VA hired him to tend her garden a few hours a week, and David was hooked. “She taught me all about plants, and I knew this was something I wanted to do.”

In his first fulltime job in the landscaping industry, David’s boss pegged him as someone who wasn’t supervisor material, a challenge David accepted. Within a year, he became supervisor on multiple government sites.

Now a senior account manager at EE, David says he found what he was looking for in owner Fred Peratt—a coach. “Fred wants me to take initiative and develop programs on my own,” he says. “If someone gives me an opportunity, I can do it.”

Jose Alvarado
Crew Manager

Jose Alvarado came to EE in 2014 upon the recommendation of a family member. For 11 years prior, he had been working at a furniture store, but always knew there was a better path for him. ”I wanted to learn and do new things,” says Jose. “And I knew there was no opportunity for career growth at the company I was with.”

Jose’s first job at EE involved taking care of watering plants at different site locations, but that was just the beginning. Now a crew manager, Jose does everything from installing plant materials, drainage work, retaining walls, hardscape projects, and removing trees.

EE has provided Jose with training and has helped him get his CDL license, a personal goal for many years. But beyond that, Jose has been able to purchase a home for his family, a tremendous source of pride for him.

”EE has been a good fit,” says Jose. “There is a vision here to advance.” He credits much of this personal development to Fred Peratt, whom he considers both a mentor and a friend.
